In Alentejo, there is a coastal area bathed by the mild and fruitful Atlantic, which is home to a rich, unique identity. Inland, what makes up the core of the people and culture of this region, bears the scent of pennyroyal and of earth warmed by the sun. But, on the ocean side, it’s of pine needles and salty air.

A retreat hidden between a pine tree forest and a wild beach.

Just 4 km away from the village of Melides, Cantos de Baixo is a hospitality project offering its guests a feeling of being at home in a natural setting.

Operating as a single house, its heart resides in a main building designed as a family home. The entire property is rented exclusively to guarantee an intimate and familiar atmosphere.

Cantos de Baixo combines the unique landscape of this area with contemporary architecture that respects the surroundings’ colours, patterns, and textures. It is a space of escapism and serenity where guests can relax in absolute privacy. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it is a place of contemplation that fosters a close connection with the local flora and fauna, as well as their preservation.

Framed by 25 ha of immense natural beauty, it is a place teeming with biodiversity. With buildings occupying only 6 ha, the remaining site is dedicated to the preservation of nature and the promotion of conscious development, both core objectives of the project. Thymus carnosus, Armeria pungens, and Santolina impressa are among the many species that make up a habitat with immense conservation potential, nestled within the Alentejo Coast forest. A place to truly call home.
